Happy Monday everyone! I just finished my first internship a little over a week ago so I thought I'd share some tips I picked up during my time. I've worked in academic research labs since the tender age of 14....yes I loved it that much...so this was my first foray into the corporate world and everything it contains. Watch this video (below) for my first 6 tips on how to ace your internship!
Now that you've watched that....here's a few illustrations. I tried to be professional but still have a bit of a youthful look, and here are a few of the outfits that I work for work. Though I was working in a Southern plant, the office was always freeeeezing so I often dressed in layers. Forgive some of the blurry pictures...after staring at a computer screen 9-5 every day your vision isn't what it started out as. Halfway through I discovered visine eye drops (the same things I use when I code 10+ hours a day at school) worked just as well to combat any eye strain/fatigue. (And you can see the picture quality gets better).
We also had a few different (very odd acting) species of wildlife that would hang around the parking lot. This crow in particular haunted us for a few days. It would just stand there with its beak open and not get out of the way for anyone. Its crowing didn't beat the sound of this really loud bug (still have yet to figure out what it is, I'm fearing its some kind of random legend down here) that literally sounds like a car alarm. At first, no one back up North would believe me when I said there was a bug this loud...when they came to visit they were shocked! I'm thinking it's some kind of superhuman cicada (if anyone has any ideas pleaseeeee comment below!)
Also....in my time at the internship I had some prettttty amazing food, both with colleagues and at random other times (a girl's got to eat right?). That amazing fruit pastry at the top was one of my favorites at the cafeteria. Though I packed my lunch every day and pretty much never ate there (broke college student XD), this was my once in a blue moon splurge. It reminds me of a french pastry I had once when I was little and have yet to achieve making from scratch. The orange bottle contains my favorite breakfast: plain yogurt, frozen blueberries, strawberries, banana, and mango, and mango juice. The cake is the one I made for the bake sale! If you want to make it you can find directions here. The bottom picture with the chopsticks is one of the intern lunches I went to. As one of the student ambassadors for the site I worked at, I organized weekly lunches for the interns/co-ops. This local hot pot place was suggested by one of my colleagues and I absolutely fell in love with scallion pancakes. And last but not least...the main focal point...krispy kreme donuts. We had to travel to a conference that was a three hour drive each way for work, and on the way back we stopped for these. They are absolutely amazing though oh-so-fattening. Highly recommend. (And this is coming from the girl who tasted one for the first time at age five...also my first donut ever...and spit it out. So if I liked these, they have have to be good.)
