For today's post I decided to go a little off the usual path and write about a new DIY I recently discovered. Though I've used store-bought face masks for years I've never really been satisfied with the results. I've dug into making my own recently and have never had breakouts disappear so quickly or have my skin feel smoother. Read below for some tips and tricks and my three favorite recipes.
Use anti-inflammatory and antimicrobial ingredients like turmeric, honey, and cinnamon
Use an astringent, like essential oils or yogurt, along with antibacterial measures.
Moisturize, moisturize, moisturize. This may sound counterintuitive if you're having a breakout, but it's the only way to stop over production of oils and beat the breakouts once and for all.
Scar Reducing Mask
Scaring from acne is caused by underlying inflammation and sometimes bacterial acne. This mask reduces those underlying factors while leaving a nice glow.
Honey is known for its antibiotic and anti-inflammatory properties. Turmeric also has antiseptic and anti-inflammatory properties, as well as the properties of a scar reducer. Cinnamon is also a minor disinfectant and provides the graininess to make this mask into a scrub

This mask is great for exfoliation but moisturizing at the same time. It allows you to shed dead skin but doesn't leave any dryness behind. It also creates a smooth skin and reduces wrinkles.
Yogurt is a mild astringent but also has moisturizing properties. Oatmeal gives exfoliation, while still keeping this mask simple.
Aztec Clay Mask
By far the most complicated mask, this one also has the most rewards. With antibacterial, scar-reducing, and anti-inflammatory properties, this mask has everything.
Bentonite clay soothes skin, and removes toxins. It also, believe it or not, can fight MRSA and has antibacterial properties. Rosewater also soothes, and lavender makes the mixture smell better.
